KUWAIT: IN TO THE FIRES OF HELL

Authors Notes

Peter Hawthorn and his men had been baptized in fire in Northern Ireland; this gave them the strength when they faced an adversary in Alaska.
Outnumbered greatly and pitted against the elite of the Soviet Union they prevailed with a great loss of life but not in vain. Through their efforts and resolve of the Yorkshire spirit they prevented a pandemic that could have been of biblical proportions. Although the incident was covered up by the governments involved. Peter and his men grew into professional soldiers; battle hardened becoming men of a club only those who have seen action could understand. The horrors never left them and the lost friends never forgotten. Nightmares had waned and begun to subside.
Peter married Mary and took Kenzie as his own flesh and blood, a step daughter he could never replace nor love any less even after Peter junior was born, his love for his family was total dedication as a husband and a father.

Nan is proud of her grandson for becoming the man she saw him grow to become over the years, Mary is the grand daughter in law that kept him in his place when he was being foolish but Nan never interfered ,she didn’t have to “Mary will kick his arse” she used to quip.
The Berlin wall had been brought down and was no more, other threats in the world began to become the dangers to world peace. Yugoslavia was in unrest; terrorism in the Middle East was taking a hold on the west bank and in Yemen. Drought and disease in African countries killing millions from starvation and inter-tribal war led to genocide.

The United Nations was slow to answer and when they did the blue helmets were walking into war zones. The war between Iraq and Iran had ended in a stalemate and had been fought on the scale of World war one but there was a great bitterness and resentment from Iraq towards the other Middle Eastern countries doing well from crude oil.
President Saddam Hussain looked towards his southern nabour Kuwait and thought of them as an easy target for his Republican guard his elite troops…..
The Middle East was a hot bed for trouble and trouble for the West as Peter and his men were about to find out.

Man in the woods short story

THE MAN IN THE WOODS The small town of Pembroke was a sleepy little hollow in the southern state of Virginia, population no more than 25ooo people. Surrounded by woods on three sides and old mine workings to the west of the town, it was one of those out of way places that you only see in those mystery or horror movies. A boom town in its day, full of Business on Main Street doing well and everyone was trying to make a buck.
